Lift Kit and Suspension Installation in Vernon Hills
A lift is a suspension change, so the parts around it move too. Brake line length, bump stop height, track bar geometry, driveline angle, and the alignment all shift with ride height, and a kit that ignores them rides badly and wears tires. We specify the supporting parts with the kit rather than after it.
Covers leveling kits, lift kits, shocks, coilovers, control arms, and alignment.
What the job includes
All of it is part of the work.
- Picking the height honestly
- How the vehicle is driven decides this more than how it looks. A tow vehicle, a daily driver, and a trail rig do not want the same setup, and more height is not better on an independent front end.
- The install
- Kit installed to the manufacturer spec, with the supporting parts the height actually calls for: extended brake lines, bump stops, an adjustable track bar, sway bar links.
- Alignment
- An alignment or an alignment check after any meaningful suspension change. Skipping it is how a new set of tires gets worn out in a season.
- Re-torque at 500 miles
- Suspension hardware settles once it has been driven. Bring it back and we re-torque it. That is part of the job.
What we specify
Every one of these is decided against your vehicle rather than off a chart.
- The kit itself, from a level to a long arm system with adjustable geometry.
- The shocks, which decide how it rides more than the height does.
- Extended brake lines, a track bar, and bump stops, where the height calls for them.
- Gearing, if the tire size would otherwise leave it driving tall.
- The alignment, and any steering or ADAS calibration the vehicle expects after.
- How the front end is built. An independent front is a different job from a solid axle at the same height.
What we'll ask you
Usually enough for us to price it on the first call.
- The year, model, and trim.
- The tire you want to end up on. That decides the lift more than the lift decides it.
- How it gets driven: daily, towing, trail, or a mix.
- Anything already changed on the suspension.
Vehicles we do this on
Each one has the setups people go with and the builds we finished on it.
Lifts & Suspension questions we get
- How much lift do I need for the tires I want?
- It depends on the vehicle, the wheel offset, and whether you want any trimming done. Tell us the vehicle and the tire and we will tell you what clears.
- Do I need an alignment after a lift?
- Yes. Any meaningful change in ride height changes the alignment, and driving on it uneven is what ruins a new set of tires.
- Leveling kit or a full lift?
- A leveling kit takes the factory rake out and fits a modestly larger tire. A full kit changes the suspension and gives you real clearance. Which one is right depends on the tire you are after.
